1853 BIRTH OF THE INDIAN RAILWAYS 3.30 p.m 16th April Lady Governor of Bombay,400 special invited guests in 14 gaily decorated coaches ,amidst thunderous applause of vast multitude and salute of 21 guns,the train gave a long whistle and and moved into history,and thus saga of a great journey,journey of Indian Railway, Three brand new steam engines sindh,sahib and sultan roared out,steam bellowing and both sides of track,people were thronging,awestruck and cheering,journey from 'Boree Bunder' to Tannah a distance of 34 kilometres took 1hour 15minutes time.It was run by Great Indian Peninsular Company,a company which was not only pioneer but made great strides in connecting Mumbai with hinterland.Railway on 15th August 1854,the first passenger train steamed out from howrah to hooghly,a distance of 24 miles,In south the Madras Railway company opened the first line on 1st July 1856
